Why does everyone who ever calls me have a giant "Dragon is in the bathroom!" detector?

Confusion, contradiction, and the creative impulse
Between offline time and my job, I've been nudged into a strange headspace of late. Some of it is pretty obvious -- sleeping from 9a - 5p is going to throw anyone off.
But my RP time's been cut and I haven't been able to produce any writing, thanks to my schedule. I've actually done a little work on a comic, believe it or not. The production value is kind of low, but considering I'm just starting out that's not a terrible thing. I miss being able to work in pencil, which is my preferred medium, but I just have no good way to translate those images into electronic format and still make them look decent.
One problem I have is that I don't have any good way to make very narrow inked lines for a background. While I have a .1 mm inking pen, the line it produces is too wide for good background work. Maybe if I bumped my foreground pen up to .3mm...
I don't particularly like GIMP from my experiences with it. I can't get it to do text for speech balloons and narration boxes. Still, it may be my only choice for an image-manip program, since I have no money to spend on any professional product. I can get by in Paint, but it's not thrilling, and leaves no hope for shading or color.
I need to do more writing, but I can't seem to push myself to do it. Stupid schedule! I blame it for everything!
I have so much I want to say, and no clue how to say it.

Hey
tigerphoenix -- if I sent you pencil images, could you clean them up and blacken the lines to approximate inking, or some similar artist magic?
