Something on the good side is finally happening at work. Of course, it took something bad to prompt it...

So our office is being renovated, and said renovation, for no real good reason, is going to take out a couple of dozen cubicles. Management, in its infinite wisdom, decided that our unit should move across the street into the Government Printing Office, which was kind enough to give us space... stinky, poorly-lit, polluted space with broken desks and none of the comforts of our office.

Naturally, we raised a big stink about this. BIG. Out of, I think a desire to stop our supervisor from getting the union involved, the management rammed through an alternate plan of sorts.

Upshot: I'm getting a laptop and approved for teleworking.

It won't be much -- one day a week normally, possibly two during the renovation, but each telework day is a day where I am getting up at 8:00 instead of 6:15, where I am done at 5:15 instead of home at 7, where I am NOT stuck in traffic and on the Metro for three hours a day. And it's the comfort of home. All in all, I heartily approve of this.

Soon as I get my laptop (I have my keyfob already, go figure) I can get this started.
