WoW ramblings: Been in Kara twice now, once as my pally, once as my lock.

Offtanking trash is very weird. You sit there running through your usual tanking routine for a long period of time, and it's sort of like you're the only person there, till the rest of the raid burns down the trash that the MT was on and gets to you. But I got the lone tank drop off of Attumen, that pleased me. We killed Moroes twice (we had some add management problems and I didn't know fear was bugged in that encounter), wiped on Maiden once (I was only cleansing that encounter, we had positioning problems), and cleared the Wizard of Oz opera event (in which I felt about as silly as can possibly be, tanking Tinhead by running from him). When we came back to try to do more, some of our group wasn't on, so we ended up pulling in a couple of people who were pretty lousy, and thus couldn't get past Curator.

Going in as my lock was a bizarrely different experience. With consumables I broke 1k +sd, which pleased me immensely -- and also gave me some serious threat problems. I've been working hard at redlining my damage -- as affliction, this means timing my DOTs precisely, then chain-casting shadowbolts as fast as possible. I really ought to get Quartz (or whatever mod it is that lets you know when you can actually begin casting another spell, as opposed to what your cast bar says)... but in any case, my +damage was high enough that I had to back off on a pretty decent pallytank with recommended +sd levels. And I died repeatedly. We downed Attumen (I aggroed the horse, but soulshattered), and he dropped the same tank wrists as before (what are the odds?). Moroes killed the hell out of me because the OT was... well, not quite as adaptive to new circumstances, this being the first time he'd ever been in Kara and OT'd. (I did better, but I'm me.) So I was second on threat list and standing on him to absorb Blinds, so a gouge on the tank had him drop me for over twice my health in a couple shots. (He crushed me for 10k! Bastard.)

I got my revenge, though, Curse of Doom hit him for about the same in return a little while later. :) Despite my death and some serious add management problems again, the raid dropped him and our MT got his watch. I want that watch. :(

We wiped on Maiden, and my DPS was artificially low on our successful second try because I went for the second Curse of Doom rather than a CoA, and she dropped with 1.6 seconds to go on its countdown. She had crap loot. A druid friend of ours who we'd picked up midway started the Opera too soon, so we wiped on Romulo and Julienne (and I got nuked hard) due to bad heal interrupts. Frustrations were running high (due to a couple of trash wipes) but we gave it another go and by a MIRACLE won on the second one (despite one rogue dying too quickly). I actually had to stop DPS entirely for a period there, my threat was sky-high.

Thanks in large part to the presence of a shadow priest, the other warlock and I made up almost half the raid DPS. 667.7 DPS is not a bad average, though my technique needs a lot of work. The loot was universally crap, though. With luck we'll get back in and down Curator at least, tomorrow (I want to see CoD hit for 20k, though I may be tanking it. Either way, I'll take).

I'm feeling good about this.

Let me know if you want advice on offtanking in Kara as a pally. I started offtanking there like over a year ago. Started maintanking (as a pally!) about the end of the summer, I believe. Now I respec and heal, cause we do 2 hour full clears that way and it's a lot more fun. It's something different compared to the tanking I did there for like a year...

And that EFFING watch. Never saw one drop for over eight or so months...finally got it, just as I had given up hope. It had been my last drop there, too! And as it is, I barely use it now, but I got it around last October, so I did get a good six or so months out of it... ;-)

Naw, I'm pretty good, for what it's worth. :D We'd prefer a warrior or druid offtank (more utility when NOT tanking) but I'm what we've got, so.

I didn't GET the watch, I was on my lock at the time, and I can just burn badges to make the awesome new tortoise anyway...

Just run heroic Magister's. That's the trinket I replaced it with... (sta is a tankadin's best friend <3)

I run it, Kara, maintanking it with, usually, a dps warrior as my offtank, but we're omgz uber. Mwahahaha!

Still haven't figured out how to down the second boss. Clearly there's SOMEthing we're missing but I don't know what.

Moroes?

Naw, he's relatively easy. The second MT boss. Every time we tried it, he wiped us within ten seconds of enraging. We have no idea how to burn down 20% health when his AOE drops us so quickly.

Oh. I usually slip on about 200 resist gear (with still being over 490). With that amount of resist, my healer doesn't need to watch me as much. Then we have our uber hunter burn them down. Usually he dies because the debuff makes his dps multiply. Usually he dies around 300 times normal dps, and his normal dps is over 1500... (he usually pulls aggro, I don't consecrate on that fight, making it harder on me to keep aggro...but sometimes I kill the sparks with con, so better not to get the debuff, I usually pop wings about 40 seconds into it, after avenger's shield is back up...)

Quartz is amazing, I'd definitely pick it up.

And you are really lucky on the watch. One person has been waiting for that to drop for about 6 months of weekly Kara!

That'll be me with Prince's cloak, I think. Although I kinda don't even want it anymore :D Sour grapes...

I should, but I haven't played the lock seriously in forever.

And like I said, I don't NEED the watch. I'm already uncrushable, and running 34% flat avoidance; the turtle gives less dodge but for twice the time, which I think would be better.

I Love Kara. It's one of the only raids I really have time for.
I've only got one lvl 70 to take, my rogue. But it's so much fun.

Hubby has a Tankadin and a hunter... runs with the Pally most of the time.

I'm slowly working on a healie next so I can help a little more with raids... cause DPS is a dime a dozen. lol

That's what I thought I'd do, make a nice healer to help with raids...

That shadow priest? That's me. LOL

I've started a few priests... but never really played them much. At the moment I've got a lvl 36 pally healie and a lvl 42 Druid that I'm working on to see which one I like healing with best.

A sufficiently twinked out tank can solo tank Karazhan as long as you get a semi-offtank (feral druid, probably) to absorb a couple of Gouges. A paladin can cheat with BoSacrifice on that, too.

667 is pretty good DPS for Karazhan level, though you should be careful of what you're logging (SoC and other AoEs inflate damage significantly on trash). My raid group bases its clearance levels solely on boss fight DPS rather than trash. I generally find that I'm familiar enough with my CDs to know when it will accept input for the next spell without mods, though some sort of timer probably helps.

Your group should all be spread out inside the circle of pillars for Maiden, everyone always within range of a dispeller. BoSacrifice is pretty hax for that one too, as is Grounding Totem if you have any shamans.

Karazhan (and ZA too, for that matter) is really a class check - you should have one of everything when possible. It's possible to do it without, but a much rougher learning curve.

It's pretty good even if you take out my SoCs if you consider my gear is below average and I was dead for substantial chunks of boss fights. :D

I wouldn't need a castmod on the pally, I've got that down pretty well, but considering my server is physically located in Seattle, latency can vary over a couple tenths of a second. If I'm trying to match my CDs on DOTs as accurately as possible while still squeezing out every sbolt, knowing exactly when I can start casting again would be helpful. I can and have been doing it by feeling, but... :)

We know the mechanics of Maiden, we just are mostly new to the instance and still perfecting LOS, the importance of cleansing, etc. We only have two healers, so sometimes a Holy Fire can sneak by and someone gets downed. It's a work in progress.

We don't have class diversity, it's just a fact. I think we've been doing pretty well with what we DO have, though.
