Today was an interesting day... in that it wasn't interesting.

See, the thing about the Federal Register (where I'm working) is that it's part of the National Archives (NARA), but doesn't actually have anything to DO with NARA. It's also a tiny office (45 people, tops) with pretty low turnover.

So the Register, when they hired about seven new employees, figured they'd get them all at once -- not counting on NARA's HR policies, which give people the option of when they start. So three of us started yesterday, more will come in two weeks from now, and even more will come in two weeks after that.

Rather than being able to introduce, train, and settle all of us at once, the Register is getting us staggered and piecemeal, and doesn't really know what to do about it. The three of us that started today ended up sitting around reading various pamphlets and brochures till we all got to go home early. Oops.
