I had to drive in myself this morning, with my normal carpool driver out for a doctor's appointment. 20 miles took an hour and a half.

A thought on this: Both traffic engineers and the people who assign funding and priorities for transit architecture should be required to drive on the roads they're taking into consideration.

Another thought: There were no accident, no troubles, no reason for traffic to be unusually slow. It was delayed, therefore, solely because people were being jerkasses this morning -- driving in ways that benefitted themselves solely, and screwing over everyone else in the process. This is borne out by the idiot who decided that checking the lane he was moving into was entirely optional and nearly wrecked us both in the process. Smooth. (Especially because he was only doing it to get into an exit lane to bypass traffic. Double smooth.)

Then the Metro train I got on moved at a crawl, stopping unjustifiably before every single station, causing me to be grossly late. Incidently, Metro is going to start randomly searching people's bags, in a move that will catch no terrorists, improve no security, and violate any number of rights. Small wonder they released the determination with no public notice or comment. I wish I had the option to boycott.

Got into work, where I've been the only one doing a thing for the day, as usual. All in all, this day fails at everything, and I wish nothing more to be home for about a year. I'm tired.
