A question for you computer geeks out there:

When my computer tells me "This machine was not properly shut down and is now running at safe speed, please DEL to BIOS setup to set correct CPU speed"... What am I supposed to do?

(Aside from the obvious, of course, since I have no idea what the hell that MEANS.)

I don't remember what speed your processor was, I'm really sorry.

You can try this page, the hardware method? I believe you've prodded around in your system before.

Don't touch the heat sink.

Oh boy, a project for my day off. Learn to mess with the guts of my computer.

Well, I've taught myself everything I've needed to know about software so far, hardware shouldn't be so hard, right?

Right?

Epilogue: It was. Dragon died horribly.

I think he's being silly, so far as I know he's still at work.

Though if I write a panic post tomorrow, there'll be a lot less laughter.

But if I could post from beyond the grave, that would be awesome.

Maybe, honey, but I'd miss you.

If you want some relatively experienced help, let me know, and we can work out a time that I can swing by.

If I can't get it fixed this weekend when I'm out of town, I'm gonna need that help pretty badly, I think.

I can't find a way to get the heat sink off without touching it. And not touching it means I can't see the speed.

Not that it matters for my dead computer.
