In all the business, I haven't gotten to post my "awesome" holiday story: getting hit by a car on Christmas Eve.

It occurred, as you might expect, in a parking lot. I was walking from a store back to the car, which was parked some distance away. Crossing the intersection of a parking lane with the lane in front of the stores, I had my eye on a car rolling up the former lane. It was some distance away, so I figured I could get safely across said intersection. Halfway through, I had the twin realizations of "Hey, he's going pretty fast for in a parking lot" and "hey, he's not gonna stop."

Luckily, having seen this dude coming, I was able to execute a fairly impressive jumping dodge while pushing off his hood. At this point he actually looked at what was in front of him for probably the first time since he'd started driving down that lane, and stopped the car. His only response to the whole incident was a sheepish "my bad" grin; I guess he decided I was okay because rather than being flat on the ground writhing in pain, I was flipping him right the hell off.

No lasting injury or effect save that my hand hurt for a while (and beneath the anger I still feel a little cool for the awesome dodge). Still... add this to the list of things I did not want to accomplish in 2009. Or... ever.
