I like mostly shounen stuff, although there are a few things that one could argue belong to either shounen or shoujo. Inu-Yasha, Ranma, Escaflowne, etc. I was sort of raised on action flicks since that was my way to spend time with my dad. My idea of a chick flick would be Braveheart, Gladiator or Spiderman (however the romance in that was, well...it could have been written better).
I typically don't like the way girls in anime are portrayed. They tend to abuse the male characters, like hitting them over the head and the male characters just sit there and take it. Either that or the girls can't do anything for themselves and the guys have to constantly save them. Usually they're a combination of both. How much like real life that is, in Japan, I have no idea. That one android chick is a good example of a good female anime character. Strong, but has no need to prove it to anyone.
It's always the ones that seem like they'd fry someone for looking at them wrong, that have the highest tolerance levels as far as annoying people go. Hiei from YYH is very much like Vegeta in personality and character design (same height, same hair, but a light-weight, add a katana and a bitchin' dark flame attack like kamehameha only in the shape of a dragon. When he summoned that for the first time, everyone was like, "Uh...wow, uh, glad he's on our team..."). He's constantly surrounded by people who are "annoying" and he just ignores them or makes a remark regarding their IQ level. Such a bad ass.
I do like watching Goten and Trunks. They're hilarious during that tournament. Okay how is it that the android woman can have kids? I asked someone once and she didn't know, but she doesn't know about many things in general anyway...
