We heard during the course of this class about the medical requirements and so forth of a midwife and what they're capable of doing in the home, the birth center, or the hospital. I've forgotten most of it, since I took lousy notes, but there was a definite agreement regarding the idea of knowing when to throw in the towel. (I think I stopped taking notes about the point they started discussing the various tears and incisions that might occur during birth. I should point out that I'm one of the two males in this class. ;) )
