Well, I recovered the system from the ethernet card drivers disappearing, and updated the video drivers, but I'm still getting crashes, BSODs, and Stop errors.

Not good.

It does sound like either heat or memory.

You might try downloading Memtest86 and test your memory. (You copy it onto bootable media and then boot from that.)

Other than that, vacuum out your heatsink and fans. Just because it's cooler now, it might still be overheating the CPU. *shrug*

Problem is, I can't create any bootable media. I never got around to putting a floppy in this thing.

Guess I ought to buy a can of compressed air and crack the cover.
